Mondo Rock – Come Said The Boy
“Come Said the Boy”, a provocative tale about the loss of virginity, was banned by many radio stations including Sydney’s then top-rated 2SM. Despite this, it went on to become their most successful single, peaking at No. 2.
The new Mondo Rock lineup recorded their next album The Modern Bop in late 1983. When they started recording it, McCusker thought they would have a bunch of “gently grooving” songs, only to find the first tracks they recorded “turned out to be quite tough and I think we’ll end up with a rock ‘n’ roll disc”. The album was duly released and scored its biggest Australian hit in March 1984 with McCusker’s “Come Said the Boy”, a provocative tale about the loss of virginity, which was banned by many radio stations including Sydney’s then top-rated 2SM. Despite this, it went on to become their most successful single, peaking at No. 2. The music video was filmed at the beach stairs on Maroubra Beach.
Mondo Rock – Come Said The Boy (Lyrics)
It was a party night, it was the end of school
He’s head was feelin’ light, the first time
She seemed much older then, she had turned seventeen
And she knew some older men, the first time
Come said the boy, let’s go down to the sand
Let’s do what we wanna do, let me be a man for you
Oh-woh-woh-oh, oh-woh-woh-oh
Oh-woh-woh-oh, oh-woh-woh
And she said
Well I’ve been waitin’ for a long time
And you’ve changed a lot
Up till now it’s been the wrong time
To know whether to come here or not
Oh, now come with me boy, just take my hand
I’ll let you see what you wanna see
Come on, be a man for me
Hoh-oh-oh, we’ve both been waitin’ for a long time
We’ve both changed a lot
Up till now it seemed the wrong time
To know whether to come here or not
Oh, but come said the boy, let’s go down on the sand
Let’s do what we wanna do, let me be a man for you
Just say come with me boy, just take my hand
I’ll let you see what you wanna see
Come on be my man for me
Oh-woh-woh-oh, oh-woh-woh-oh
Oh-woh-woh-oh, oh-woh-woh
It was a party night (oh-woh-woh-oh)
It was the end of school (oh-woh-woh-oh)
He’s head was feelin’ light (oh-woh-woh-oh)
It was the first time (oh-woh-woh-oh)
She seemed much older then (oh-woh-woh-oh)
She had turned seventeen (oh-woh-woh-oh)
‘Cause she knew some older men (oh-woh-woh-oh)
For the first time (oh-woh-woh-oh)
